Academic staff reviewed for increased job security
Academic staff having five or more years of service and holding fixed-term renewable, rolling-horizon, or multiple-year appointments were reviewed for the increased job security of new or longer-term rolling-horizon or multiple-year appointments or new indefinite appointments. Of 7070 total academic staff, 2827 (40.0%) were reviewed for increased job security between October 2005 and July 2006.
Of the 2827 academic staff who were reviewed: 291 (10.3%) received increased job security. 43 (1.5%) had a decrease in job security. 2493 (88.2%) had no change in their level of job security. Of these, 1369 held rolling-horizon or multiple-year appointments, and 1124 held fixed-term renewable appointments.
Not reviewed were academic staff with fixed-term terminal appointments, academic staff already holding indefinite appointments, and academic staff with fewer than five years of service (even if they already held rolling-horizon or multiple-year appointments).
Job security status: all academic staff
Of 7070 total academic staff:
4614 (65.3%) had fixed-term renewable appointments. Of these, 3490 had fewer than five years of service, and 1124 had five or more years of service.
1796 (25.4%) had increased job security in the form of
rolling-horizon, multiple-year, or indefinite appointments.
Of these, 1326 had rolling-horizon or multiple-year
appointments, and 179 had indefinite appointments. 660
(9.3%) had fixed-term terminal appointments. The academic
staff is 51.3% female. Women comprise 50.0% of academic staff with
rolling-horizon, multiple-year, or
indefinite appointments. Job security

(56.7%) had the increased job security of rolling-horizon or
multiple-year appointments. 1124
(37.4%) had fixed-term renewable appointments.
179 (6.0%) had the increased job security of indefinite
appointments. For 2001-2002,
the corresponding percentages were 59%, 31%, and 10%; for that
reporting period, academic staff with seven or more years of service were reviewed.
For 2002-2003,
the corresponding percentages were 58%, 33%, and 9%; for that
reporting period, academic staff
with five or more years of service were reviewed.
For 2003-2004,
the corresponding percentages were 57%, 36%, and 6%; for that
reporting period, academic staff
with five or more years of service were reviewed.
