Van Hise Classroom Computer Labs

LSS supports three computer labs in Van Hise that are available for instructional use by timetable courses in the College of Letters & Science.

All of our classroom computer labs feature:

  • Widescreen laptops - 24 student laptops and 1 instructor laptop
  • Projector and screen
  • Headphones - for listening to digital audio
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Internet access with Mozilla Firefox
  • AB Tutor: Computer lab management software that allows the instructor to project any computer in the lab, send and collect files, and launch programs and websites on the student computers
  • Skype: Voice/Video/Chat communication software
  • Audacity: Audio recording and editing software
  • Foreign Language Support: All of the Microsoft complex and right-to-left fonts have been installed.  Students have access to the Microsoft keyboards for language-specific input.  Other fonts and keyboards can be installed upon request, however LSS will not support non-Microsoft keyboards unless created with the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (a free utility). 

250 Van Hise

250 Van Hise is ideal for individual work, in class chats, presentations, and testing (including listening and speaking exams). It also works well for general instructional lab activities.

  • Video: Region free DVD Player, Multi-standard VCR, webcams on all computers
  • Audio: Audio Receiver, Sound System, Headphone / Microphone Combos for listening and recording digital audio
  • Other: overhead projector for transparencies, tiered seating, dry erase board (bring your own markers, please)

250 Van Hise Classroom Computer Lab

259A Van Hise

259A Van Hise is our English as a Second Language lab. While priority is given to ESL classes, the lab is made available for instructional use to for other courses when possible. 259A works well for communicative activities, audio recording, listening activities and other general instructional lab activities.

  • Video: Region free DVD Player, Multi-standard VCR, webcams on all computers
  • Audio: Audio Receiver, Sound System, Headphone / Microphone Combos for listening and recording digital audio
  • Other: overhead projector for transparencies, large dry-erase board (bring your own markers, please)

274 Van Hise

The open floor plan of 274 Van Hise makes this a good lab for classes where the instructor wants to move around and interact with students.
