Free LSS Workshops: Videotaping lessons for teaching portfolios

Recording your teaching for a class? Need to create a portfolio of teaching videos before you go on the job market? LSS will present a free, two-part workshop series on how to videotape your class and compile the video. These workshops are open to all TAs in the College of Letters & Science. Other L&S faculty and instructional staff are also welcome to attend.

During the workshops, Dennis Rinzel, David Macasaet, and Barbara Bird will present video equipment and editing programs step-by-step.

Part I: Videotaping your lesson
Friday, March 6, 3-4 pm, room 294 Van Hise Hall

The workshop will include the following topics:

  • Types of video to include in your teaching portfolio
  • Equipment selection (Focus on the Kodak Zi6)
  • Getting the best recording (equipment setup)
  • What to do with the video after you've recorded it

Part II: Editing and Compiling Teaching Videos
April 24, 3-4pm  room 294 Van Hise Hall

This workshop will build on Part I, though it is not required that you participate in Part I.

  • What to include in your portfolio
  • How to edit your videos
