Jim Armbrecht: Gone Fishin’

Jim Armbrecht began working for Learning Support Services in 1974 when it was still known as the Laboratories for Recorded Instruction (LRI). He retired in December, 2008 after 34 years of service.

Anyone who has ever used AV equipment in Van Hise Hall during the past few decades has probably benefitted from Jim’s skills and expertise. He worked mostly behind the scenes as an electronics technician diagnosing, fixing, installing and removing every kind of AV equipment you can imagine. Jim also assisted with audio and video recording sessions.

Jim started preparing LSS for his April, 2009 retirement several years ago, so we were all surprised and saddened when Jim announced last fall that he would be retiring by the end of 2008. He was simply one of many veteran UW-Madison employees swept up in a wave of retirements hastened by changing economic conditions and retirement calculations.

LSS honored Jim with a Green Reel award at a lunch in January. The award commemorated the many changes in technology, personnel, and hairstyles Jim has experienced during his career at LSS.

It’s no joke that we miss Jim here at LSS. We all wish him and his wife Joan many happy years of huntin’, campin’ and fishin’.
