Van Hise Hall Instructor Guide Available

L&S Learning Support Services has created a guide for instructors teaching in Van Hise Hall. Van Hise Hall is one of the largest classroom buildings on campus and hosts instructors from every UW-Madison school and college. Now Hiring: Student Lab Attendants

Update 09/4/09: All student hourly positions are currently filled.

L&S Learning Support Services employs approximately thirty UW-Madison students throughout the academic year. We offer a fun yet challenging work environment and the opportunity to develop skills employers look for after graduation.

Shifts are available weekdays between 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. Students may be assigned to work in any of the following areas in Van Hise Hall: Learning Lab (library), InfoLab (computer lab), AV Equipment Pool, Office Reception. We will provide all necessary training. Starting pay is $7.60/hour, with raises each semester.

2009 UW-Madison Student Technology Survey Results Now Available

According to the 2009 UW-Madison Student Computing Survey,

  • Laptop vs. Desktop: Ninety‐three percent of students report owning a laptop computer. Only twenty-six percent report owning a desktop computer.
  • Windows vs. Mac: Seventy‐three percent of students use the Windows operating system on the computers they own. Thirty-three percent use the Macintosh operating system. Seven percent use Linux.
  • MP3 Players: Eighty-one percent of students own portable MP3 players (iPod, Zune, etc.).

Now Hiring: InfoLab/TechZone Consultant

LSS is now accepting applications for the position of InfoLab/TechZone Consultant. This is a full time academic staff position with two broad areas of responsibility: information technology support for L&S faculty and staff (primarily in and near Van Hise Hall), and management of the LSS InfoLab in Van Hise Hall.
