L&S Learning Support Services is happy to welcome Antonella Caloro back to LSS!

Antonella will be managing the LSS InfoLab in Van Hise Hall and providing desktop computer support to faculty and staff in Van Hise and surrounding buildings. Antonella previously worked at LSS as a Project Assistant and Lab Intern.

Workshop: Taking Video for a Teaching Portfolio

L&S LSS will offer a workshop for L&S instructors on strategies for taking video of classroom instruction for inclusion in a teaching portfolio.

The workshop is designed to cover suggestions for the types of classroom moments that are particularly advantageous for a portfolio and how to make the best of a one-camera shoot.  In addition, there will be a brief hands-on guide to the shoot and share camcorders available in the AV Pool with a discussion of their advantages and potential shortcomings.

Instructor Training for WiscChat

L&S LSS presents a workshop open to instructors in the College of Letters & Science on WiscChat, an instant messaging service that can be utilized simply with a web browser or with a chat client. 

Both workshop sessions are identical and will cover hands-on technical skills as well as a discussion of possible uses, advantages and limitations of the tool (e.g. instruction, online office hours, student collaboration, pandemic planning, etc.).

LSS Consulting Supports CREECA Digital Stories

LSS recently provided production support to CREECA (Center for Russia, East Europe & Central Asia)  for a series of audio lectures and "digital stories". The audio content is part of Inside Islam: Dialogues and Debates, a new-media initiative that seeks to challenge misconceptions and stereotypical perceptions about Islam and Muslims worldwide.

Laptop checkout quota news

The LSS InfoLab staff has received several queries about the Checkout Quota System.  This system is in a testing phase at this time.  When you check a laptop out, a counter is updated and the lab attendant may pass that information on to you.  However, the counter is not being used to limit checkouts at this time. 

Macbook VGA adapters available

The LSS InfoLab has acquired four Mini DVI-VGA adapters to connect a Macbook to a projector.  The adapters will work with the Macbooks available for check out in the LSS InfoLab, but must be checked out separately.  You can also check out an adapter to use with a personal Macbook.  Please verify the type of connection that you need for your personal Macbook - this adapter will not work with all Macbooks or Macbook Pros.

Chad Shorter - Learning Technology Teaching Assistant

L&S Learning Support Services is pleased to welcome Chad Shorter as our first Learning Technology Teaching Assistant.

Chad is a dissertator in the Italian department, and brings eight years of teaching experience to the position, having taught Italian language courses at Brigham Young University, the University of Virginia, and here at UW Madison.
