Since its launch in January 2009, the Teaching and Learning Excellence website has become UW-Madison's online home for conversations about teaching and learning.
On the site, you'll find many opportunities to dive in and get engaged with the growing community of faculty, instructors, and staff that are discussing their ideas and sharing resources.
Students enrolled in French 313: Professional Communication and Culture in the Francophone World had a once in a lifetime experience when their professor Janet Caulkins introduced them to Dr. Pascal Baudry. Baudry is author of Français et Américains, l’autre rive, an influential text on culture and communication. Using a transatlantic video connection, he welcomed the students into a castle in the Loire Valley where they practiced their French communication skills and had a lively discussion about French Culture.
This slideshow illustrates how Professor Caulkins uses simple tools to bring authentic voices into the classroom, provide students with opportunities to apply their skills, and bring course content to life with compelling and challenging cross-cultural experiences.

In this article Peggy Hager, Senior Lecturer in Norwegian in the UW-Madison Department of Scandinavian Studies, explains how and why she developed vodcasts for use in her third semester Norwegian classes.
As digital video production has matured, just how does
"grassroots video" for instruction function on the University of
Wisconsin-Madison campus? A team from the University of Wisconsin's
General Library, the School of Medicine and Public Health, DoIT
Academic Technology, the School of Education-Instructional Media
Development Center, and L&S Learning Support Services, researched
the question of grassroots video over the summer of 2008.

The Voice Tool Suite will be free for instructors to use during the
current academic year (2008-2009). LSS will be providing online
accounts for L&S instructors who want to use it in their classes or
who simply want to experiment with voice tools.
Want to know what’s on the horizon for teaching and learning technology? Take a look at the 2009 Horizon Report. It lists six technologies which will impact the choices of learning-focused organizations in the next year, two to three years, and four to five years.

L&S Learning Support Services recently provided workshops in support of a new program called Inside Islam: Dialogues and Debates. The training, called Digital Storytelling with Audacity, prepared faculty and instructional staff to produce user-generated audio stories that illustrate underrepresented or neglected cultural, intellectual, and political aspects of Islam and Muslims.
L&S Learning Support Services recently completed a pilot course, the Global Spread of English, with University of Wisconsin-Madison English Professor Jane Zuengler. LSS provided the training and support that allowed students to create multimedia assignments and then share content online.
